Microsoft is making Windows 10 available to all Windows qualifying devices for free.

This offer will be valid for a whole year’s time and once you make the upgrade, Windows 10 updates will forever be free on that device.

Most computers that are compatible with Windows 8 should be compatible with Windows 10. To guarantee your switch, it will be important to double check the compatibility of your PC to that of Windows 10.

PCs equipped with Windows 7 or 8 will be able to do the upgrade without losing their exciting files and applications. Back-up tools, anti-virus software and some other system utilities may require updates through their developer.

If you would like to take Windows 10 for a test drive, all you have to do is install the preview version. There are two versions, a fast build and a slow build. These previews were released in 2015 will expire on October 1, 2015. On October 15, 2015 the preview version will not boot anymore, by switching to the final release you can remove the expiration date.

Microsoft has announced that the final release of Windows 10 will have three different editions. New PCs and other computers with Windows 7 and Windows 8.1 installed will have access to Windows 10 Home and Pro. Those computers that already have a MSDN subscription will be able to access the Enterprise edition. Brand new PCs will need to purchase a Pro license in order to qualify for the Enterprise upgrade.

Windows 10 Home will be equipped with features designed for a more price-conscious customer and those in the small business market; those already using Windows 7 Home Premium and Windows 8.1 systems. The Windows 10 Pro will be available to those with Windows 7 Professional, Windows 7 Ultimate and Windows 8.1 Pro systems. This version is for a group of enthusiasts, professionals or anyone in the Windows business network.

Windows 10 will be the last version of Windows that Microsoft will develop. They will offer continuous updates for free in the future.

If you find that you like Windows 8 more, even after installing the finalized release of Windows 10, there is a recovery partition to uninstall Windows 10. Unfortunately, Windows 7 PCs cannot uninstall Windows 10 unless there is a backup to an external hard drive.
